1. Biography and Family

1.1 Birth
KH. Achmad Shiddiq, whose childhood name was Achmad Muhammad Hasan, was born on Sunday, 10th of Rajab 1344 H / January 24, 1926 M in Jember, East Java. He was the youngest son of KH. Shiddiq and Nyai Hj. Zaqiah (Nyai Maryam) binti KH. Yusuf.

Kyai Achmad lost his father when he was 8 years old. Earlier, at the age of 4, he had already lost his mother, who passed away during a sea journey while returning from performing the Hajj.

Thus, from a young age, Kyai Achmad was an orphan. Consequently, Kyai Mahfudz Shiddiq took on the responsibility of raising Kyai Achmad, while Kyai Halim Shiddiq cared for Kyai Abdullah, who was then 10 years old. It is believed by some that Kyai Achmad inherited many traits and the thinking style of his elder brother (KH. Mahfudz Shiddiq).

Kyai Achmad was known for his patience, calm demeanor, and exceptional intelligence. His breadth of knowledge was extensive in both religious and general sciences.

1.2 Family History

KH. Achmad Shiddiq married Nyai Sholihah binti KH. Mujib on June 23, 1947 M. From this marriage, he was blessed with five children:

1. Mohammad Farid Wajdi (Jember)
2. H. Mohammad Rafiq Azmi (Jember)
3. Fatati Nuriana (wife of Mohammad Jufri, a local government employee in Jember)
4. Mohammad Anis Fuaidi (passed away in childhood)
5. Farich Fauzi (caretaker of the Al-Ishlah Islamic boarding school in Kediri).

However, his wife passed away in 1955 M. He then remarried Nyai Hj. Nihayah. From his marriage with Nyai Nihayah, he was blessed with eight children, including:

1. Asni Furaidah (wife of Zainal Arifin, SE.)
2. H. Moh. Robith Hasymi (Jember)
3. H. Mohammad Syakib Sidqi (lecturer in West Sumatra)
4. Mohammad Hisyarn Rifqi (husband of Tahta Alfina Pagelaran, Kediri)
5. Ken Ismi Asiati Afrik Rozana, BA (wife of Drs. Nurfaqih, a high school teacher in Jember)
6. Nida Dusturia (wife of Tijani Robert Syaifun Nuwas bin KH. Hamim Jazuli)
7. Mohammad Balya Firjaun Barlaman (caretaker of the Al-Falah Islamic boarding school in Ploso Kediri)
8. Mohammad Muslim Mahdi (passed away in childhood).

1.3 Death

After returning from the Muktamar in Yogyakarta, KH. Achmad Shiddiq suffered from severe diabetes mellitus. He was treated at Dr. Sutomo Hospital in Surabaya.

"My duty in NU is done," said KH. Achmad Shiddiq to the PBNU delegation who visited him at Dr. Sutomo Hospital. This statement turned out to be a sign. KH. Achmad Shiddiq passed away on January 23, 1991 M, and was buried in the Auliya cemetery complex in Tambak Mojo, Kediri. Two other Auliya had been buried there before. "I like it here, when I die, just bury me here," was KH. Achmad's will to his wife and children. Although it was hard because it was far from Jember, his family accepted it as a tribute to their beloved father.
